 Job description

You will:

• Act as a strategic advisor to the executive team while staying closely connected to engineering teams
• Shape the long-term architecture vision for our platform — and actively validate it in practice with teams
• Work alongside engineers and tech leads to challenge, refine and de-risk architectural decisions
• Ensure architectural consistency across teams, systems and acquisitions
• Translate technical decisions into clear business impact (scalability, cost, risk, speed)
• Guide platform evolution, including integration of acquired systems
• Evaluate build vs. buy, cloud strategy and major technology investments
• Identify and mitigate risks like technical debt, fragmentation and scalability limits
• Establish architectural principles — and ensure they are actually applied and hold up in reality
• Foster strong alignment between engineering, product and leadership
• Lead by engaging, validating and showing — not by staying at a distance

Requirements

Experience

• Extensive experience in architecture roles (Enterprise / Principal / Lead Architect)
• Background that includes hands-on engineering experience and continued technical involvement
• Proven ability to operate both strategically and close to implementation

Mindset

• Pragmatic and reality-driven: you care about what works in practice, not just on paper
• Comfortable engaging with engineers and product management to validate ideas through discussion, prototypes or review
• Strong sense of ownership for outcomes, not just recommendations

 Expertise

• Strong understanding of:
  • Distributed systems & cloud architectures (AWS preferred)
  • SaaS platforms and multi-tenant architectures
  • System integration and platform consolidation
  • Data architecture and long-term scalability
• Ability to evaluate trade-offs across:
  • Performance, cost, reliability and maintainability

Communication

• Able to translate complex technical topics into clear business insights
• Strong stakeholder management across technical and non-technical audiences
• Fluent in Dutch & English
